Orangeville, ON, April 9, 2023 - In the world of motorsport, a thrilling chapter is about to be written for a young driver from Orangeville, Ontario. Eric Kunz is set to make his debut in cars, racing in the 2023 FEL Motorsports Sports Car Championship Canada (SCCC) season, presented by Michelin.
SCCC is a homologated series and the grid consists of three internationally recognized classes: GT4, TCR, and TCA. The TCA class is new for the 2023 season and was added as another “rung in the ladder” of homologated sports car racing in Canada, making sports car racing more achievable for up-and-coming drivers and teams.
Eric is very grateful to FEL Motorsports for giving him the opportunity to join the top sports car championship in Canada. This transition marks a significant leap in his motorsport career, as he moves from the world of kart racing to the exhilarating challenges of racing cars.
Eric's journey into motorsport began in 2020 when he joined the Arrive and Drive program at Goodwood Kartways. The program provided an opportunity for outdoor activities during the challenging times of the pandemic. Eric's passion for motorsport quickly grew, leading him to competitive karting in 2021. He secured a third-place finish at the TRAK club level and a fifth-place finish at the regional level in the Rok Senior division.
In 2022, Eric diversified his racing experience by obtaining his SCCA Full Competition License. During autumn and winter, he gained additional experience driving in Lucky Dog at Calabogie Motorsports Park, ERA Championship Scholarship at Circuit Zolder, WRL at COTA, and Copa Notiauto Endurance at Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez.
In early 2023, Eric connected with Sanders Motorsport from Newmarket, Ontario where he received valuable guidance from Alan and Gavin Sanders for the next steps in his motorsport career. Sanders recommended the SCCC TCA Class for Eric and developed a full program to prepare him for the season. Eric is so happy to join the Sanders Motorsport team and said "So grateful to be with a team that has already developed a high-performing driver and is willing to support my motorsport journey.
