Starting with go-karts, a young Orangeville man is making a name for himself in the world of motorsports, competing and shining at the recent Honda Indy in Toronto. Eric Kunz is also giving back to a cause close to his heart: raising money and awareness for the treatment of rare diseases.

The 20-year-old driver is racing in the 2023 season of the FEL Motorsports Sports Car Championship Canada series, which is comprised of 12 races taking place across Ontario and Quebec.

Kunz got his start in 2020 when he joined the Arrive and Drive program at Goodwood Kartways in Uxbridge. In 2022, he diversified his racing experience by obtaining his competition racing license for cars.

Kunz was in Toronto from July 14 to 16 for the Honda Indy, where he raced in the FEL Motorsports’ TCA class. The racecourse is set on the streets of Toronto and spanned 2.874 kilometres, with 11 challenging turns.

Over the course of the weekend, Kunz secured a fourth-place finish in the first race, followed by a third-place finish in the second race. His performance culminated in a second-place finish in the final race.

In addition to racing, Kunz has launched Driven Living, a Canadian not-for-profit that uses motorsports to raise awareness and funds for rare diseases. As a rare disease patient himself, Kunz’s personal experiences motivated his commitment to driving change in the health-care system. Kunz is also a SickKids’ patient ambassador.

Driven Living will initially focus its fundraising efforts on supporting SickKids. The kickoff to fundraising activities was at the Honda Indy Toronto, where the Driven Living Draw for SickKids launched.

The draw features several rewards, including a grand prize of a pair of tickets to the highly anticipated Formula One Heineken Silver Las Vegas Grand Prix 2023, along with return airfare on Flair Airlines. Additional prizes include return airfare to any destination served by Flair Airlines and eBay gift cards. Only 5,000 tickets are available for this draw.

The Driven Living Draw for SickKids tent will be located in the FEL paddock at the CTMP Labour Day Weekend Sprints, and also at Drive Festival, both held at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park. Additional pop-up locations will be announced throughout the summer.

Tickets can also be purchased online. The prize draw is scheduled for Sept. 11.
